The sensitivity of the ancient Romans to the subject of death was very strong and is expressed in the famous Latin phrase "Memento mori" which means "Remember that you must die". These shorts pick up on that theme, specifically the ancient Roman warriors. The iconography that best represented the theme was the flower of skulls.
